Stratton's Gristmill stood on Ball Mountain Brook about two miles from this site, where Jacob Batchellor built it in 1802. A sawmill also operated there, and the gristmill served Stratton's residents by grinding grain locally for about 50 years. The runner stone and bed stone were the last millstones used there. Jonathan M. Bissell was likely the last owner to operate and maintain the gristmill, which apparently fell into ruin about the time of his death in 1850. The millstones remained buried at the mill site for about 150 years before being donated to the town.
