Citizens of New London offered their lives to preserve the Union, including commissioned officers such as General Joseph M. Clough, Major Geaorge W. Everett, Captain Andrew J. Sargent, Captain Samuel M. Carr, Captain Charlew Woodward, Captain MAthew Adams, and Lieutenant Austin W. Messer, as well as enlisted men including Thomas B. Abbott, Moses J. Adams, Daniel M. Annis, Byron K. Baker, Alfred Bean, Robert A. Blood, Alston Brown, James H. Burpee, and David W. Bunker. In World War One, those remembered also included Capt. Charles A. Lamson, Capt. Dura P. Crockett, Lieut. Carl L. Coleman, Myron R. Adams, Frank H. Butler, William N. Croteau, and George W. Currier.
