The first school in Camas, also called La Camas, was built before 1882 and was replaced in 1886 by a four-room school with inside plumbing. The original school remained on the school grounds until 1907, when the Columbia River Paper Company gave the Boy Scout Organization permission to place it on company property, where it still stands. For years it served as a scout meeting place and was known as Scout Hall. In 1934, the new owners of the mill, Crown Willamette Paper Company, gave 7.25 acres for a park and named it Crown Park. In 2005, the city used the first school primarily for youth activities.
