Mount Aeneas
Nature
Mount Aeneas is a 7,510-foot summit in the Jewel Basin area of Flathead National Forest in northwestern Montana, east of Kalispell. Named after a Flathead chieftain, it reflects both the Indigenous history of the region and the later mapped landscape of the forest. Set in a Rocky Mountain area known for alpine terrain, mountain lakes, open slopes, and broad views, it stands within a popular hiking country. Its subarctic climate brings long, usually very cold winters and mild summers, with winter temperatures and wind chill creating severe cold despite the mountain’s moderate elevation. Today it is valued for its scenery and backcountry setting.
