A cannon removed from the frigate USS Constitution during the 1927 restoration was presented to the city of Lake Wales through the efforts of Mr. William J. Pelissier and Miss Elizabeth D. Quaintance. It was originally dedicated by the Lake Wales Chapter NSDAR in 1933, then restored with donations from the people of Lake Wales, the Historic Lake Wales Society, and a grant from the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, and was rededicated on the 215th anniversary of the launching of the USS Constitution.
