Mount Nebo, an 8,261-foot peak in northeastern Oregon's Eagle Cap Wilderness, anchors the northern ridge of the Imnaha Divide near the forks of the Imnaha River. Named after the biblical Mount Nebo, it overlooks a broad backcountry landscape that has long supported regional sheep and cattle grazing. Its vegetation shows the effects of elevation and past disturbance: an early-1900s fire altered the open, grassy south slope, where mountain big sagebrush later spread, while the summit and nearby ridges hold subalpine fir, Engelmann spruce, lodgepole pine, and pockets of whitebark pine. In the 1920s, a fire lookout tower and cabin were built there and remained in use into the 1950s before removal in the 1970s.
