Old Meeting House Common was the site of Walpole's first houses of God, those of Reverend Philip Payson and Reverend George Morey, early Harvard graduates. It was remembered as Zion Mount of pleading, the earlier shrine of the town's forefathers, and though now shorn of crest and hillside, it remained associated with "Auld Lang Syne" twilight memories.
