Robert W. Hoyt, Specialist, U.S. Army, was killed in action on December 11, 2004, during Operation Iraqi Freedom. George Campert, Captain, U.S.A.A.F., and Lawrence W. Cushman, SM1/C, U.S. Navy, were killed in action in World War II. Merritt H. Gardner, Corporal, U.S. Army, was killed in action on July 4, 1952, at Old Baldy, Korea. The people of Ashford honored their memory and gratefully acknowledged the service of all other Ashford citizens who served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America.
