Tanner Creek Butte, commonly called Tanner Butte, is a 4,478-foot peak on the edge of Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge at the boundary of Hood River and Multnomah counties. The highest point in the western Gorge, it crowns Tanner Ridge, which divides the Tanner and Eagle Creek drainages, in a remote section of the Mark O. Hatfield Wilderness within Mount Hood National Forest. The summit area has no roads and lies more than nine miles from the nearest trailhead, reached only by backcountry trails. In 2017, the Eagle Creek Fire burned nearly the entire north face at severe intensity, leaving ongoing concerns about landslides, debris flows, and other hazards.
