Potts Arm is a protected wildland in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests of western Virginia, about twenty-six miles southwest of Covington in the Appalachian Mountains. Centered on Potts Cove and the surrounding ridges and branches, it includes Potts Arm, a spur of Potts Mountain that rises to 3,282 feet, the area’s highest point. Its streams drain into Barbours Creek and the James River watershed. Potts Cove contains a Rare Community with about 140-year-old old-growth forest, and the landscape is valued for its relatively undeveloped character, quiet recreation, and significance as a Mountain Treasure despite lacking formal roadless-area protection.
