In the Gavin's Pond area near the Foxborough line, spanning parts of Foxborough and Sharon, Massachusetts, this archaeological site preserves the location of a colonial-era iron foundry established in the 1760s. After the American Revolutionary War began in 1775, artillery colonel Richard Gridley and several business partners acquired the property. During the war, the foundry produced cannons and ammunition for the Continental Army, linking the site to both early industry and the Revolutionary wartime supply effort. Its later recognition on the National Register of Historic Places reflects the importance of that industrial and military role.
