June Mountain ski area is a smaller Sierra Nevada winter resort near June Lake in California, spanning June Mountain and Rainbow Mountain with wooded terrain, substantial snowfall, and relatively light crowds that have made it especially popular with locals seeking powder and tree skiing. After fifty years of continuous operation, it was closed for the 2012–2013 seasons, prompting strong concern in the surrounding community, then reopened for 2013–2014 under a plan to invest in snowmaking, a chairlift, and marketing. It has also hosted ski mountaineering, ski, and snowboard competition and remains closely tied to the June Lake area.
