Younts Peak is the highest point in Wyoming’s Teton Wilderness, standing in a remote section of the Absaroka Range in the state’s northwest. Although its summit can be hiked, its isolation makes access difficult. The mountain is closely connected to the Yellowstone River’s beginnings, as two streams rise from its northern and southern ridges and meet at the base of the western ridge to form the river. It takes its name from Harry Yount, a hunter and guide often regarded as Yellowstone National Park’s first ranger.
