Mount Redoubt is an isolated North Cascades summit in northern Washington near the Canada–US border, rising 8,956 feet in the Skagit Range and ranking as the state’s 21st highest peak. Within North Cascades National Park’s Stephen Mather Wilderness, it is noted for difficult access, its 1930 first ascent by Jimmy Cherry and Bob Ross, and its place among the region’s “Classic Eight Peaks.” The mountain is composed of Skagit gneiss, drained by Redoubt, Bear, and Depot creeks, and bordered by the Redoubt Glacier and smaller northern glaciers. Its rugged terrain reflects uplift, faulting, and repeated glaciation under a wet marine west coast climate.
