Winter Park Resort is a major alpine destination in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, growing from the Winter Park Ski Area of the 1939–40 season into a large resort long owned by Denver and later operated through partnerships with Intrawest and Alterra Mountain Company. Its history is closely tied to rail travel, as generations of skiers arrived on the Ski Train through the Moffat Tunnel before service ended in 2009 and returned in 2017 as the Winter Park Express. Built around Winter Park, Mary Jane, and Vasquez Ridge, it expanded its terrain, base village, and facilities while also becoming notable for adaptive sports through the National Sports Center for the Disabled and for year-round recreation.
