Parry Peak is a 13,397-foot summit in central Colorado’s Front Range, on the Continental Divide southeast of Winter Park in Arapaho National Forest. The highest peak of the James Group, it is also crossed by the Continental Divide Trail and is one of Colorado’s 637 thirteeners, mountains rising above 13,000 feet. Also called Bear Claw, it stands along the great crest that separates waters flowing toward different sides of the continent. The mountain is named for botanist Charles Christopher Parry, whose extensive studies of Colorado mountain flora in the 1860s linked the peak to the scientific exploration of the Rockies.
