James Peak Wilderness is a federally protected area in north-central Colorado within the Arapaho and Roosevelt national forests, just east of the Continental Divide and adjoining Indian Peaks Wilderness and the James Peak Protection Area. Covering 17,015 acres, it includes about 30 miles of trails across high alpine Front Range terrain. The area takes its name from James Peak, the second-highest mountain there, while Parry Peak is the highest point. Established as wilderness in 2001, it is part of the National Wilderness Preservation System. The name James Peak honors pioneer and botanist Edwin James after his name was shifted from what is now Pikes Peak.
