Mount Bancroft is a 13,250-foot mountain in Colorado, west of Empire on the boundary between Grand and Clear Creek counties, among the Front Range summits of the James Group. The United States Geological Survey officially named it on March 7, 1906, to honor Dr. Frederick J. Bancroft for his public health work and his contributions to Colorado history. The naming was requested by his son, George Jarvis Bancroft. Nearby Lake Caroline, just below the summit, was named for Dr. Bancroft’s granddaughter, so both the peak and the lake preserve the Bancroft family name in a prominent alpine landscape.
