Nature
Mount Gilbert is a prominent peak in northeastern Nevada's Ruby Mountains, about 22 miles southeast of Elko. Ranking as the sixth-highest named summit in the range, the eighth-highest in Elko County, and the forty-third-highest in Nevada, it rises more than 5,300 feet above Lamoille Valley and dominates views from Lamoille and State Route 227. Its summit is a high glacial horn, sharply shaped by alpine ice, and it stands at the head of Seitz Canyon along the west wall of Right Fork Canyon, within the Ruby Mountains Ranger District of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.
