Right Fork Canyon, a major branch of Lamoille Canyon in Nevada’s Ruby Mountains, extends about 5 miles from the summit of Mount Fitzgerald down past Camp Lamoille to the main canyon. It is prized for exceptionally clear glacial landforms, especially in its upper reach, where a nearly level floor and classic U-shaped profile show how powerfully ice carved the valley during earlier ice ages. Bare granite still bears dark patina and glacial striations from direct contact with the ice. Lower down, a sharp bend, abrupt drop, visible fault, steep cascade, and 30-foot waterfall together form a compact record of the range’s glacial and geologic history.
