Ruby Dome
Nature
Ruby Dome is the highest peak in the Ruby Mountains of northeastern Nevada and the highest point in Elko County. About twenty-one miles southeast of Elko in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, it rises to 11,387 feet, making it the state’s twenty-seventh-highest mountain. Its significance also comes from its strong topographic prominence: from a base near 6,000 feet, it towers more than 5,000 feet above nearby terrain and ranks thirteenth in Nevada by prominence. As the culminating summit of the Ruby Mountains, it dominates the surrounding Great Basin landscape and remains a major landmark within this protected forest setting.
