Seitz Canyon is a major glacial canyon in Nevada’s Ruby Mountains, valued for its remote setting, diverse habitats, and especially clear evidence of Ice Age glaciation. The canyon descends from high ridges near Mount Silliman to Seitz Lake, then through aspen groves, beaver ponds, sagebrush flats, and granite cliffs before its waters become Rabbit Creek and flow toward the Humboldt River. Its landforms include a classic U-shaped upper basin, glacier-cut striations, exposed granite, lateral moraines, and a reverse hanging valley linked to an earlier glacier from the southern fork near Ruby Dome. The canyon and lake were named for early Pleasant Valley ranchers George and Edward Seitz.
