Snow Lake Peak
Nature
Snow Lake Peak is a prominent mountain in northeastern Nevada’s Ruby Mountains, about 25 miles southeast of Elko. Ranking as the range’s fifth-highest named summit, the seventh highest in Elko County, and the forty-second highest in the state, it rises above Snow Lake, Box Canyon, Thomas Canyon, and the west wall of Lamoille Canyon. The mountain is a high glacial horn, carved by ice into a sharp and rugged summit. Within the Ruby Mountains Wilderness of Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, it stands out among the range’s major peaks as the only one that cannot be reached by scrambling, reflecting its unusual steepness and technical difficulty.
