Mount Fitzgerald stands in northeastern Nevada, about twenty-four miles southeast of Elko in the Ruby Mountains Wilderness of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. It is among the highest named peaks in the Ruby Mountains, ranks fifth in Elko County, and is the state's thirty-ninth-highest mountain. Rising above the heads of Thomas Canyon and Right Fork Canyon, both branches of Lamoille Canyon, and forming part of Box Canyon's north wall, it also illustrates the range's glacial past. Its summit is a high ridge rather than a single point, making it a true glacial horn within one of Nevada's best-known alpine landscapes.
