Squaretop Mountain is an 11,695-foot peak in western Wyoming’s Wind River Range, within the Bridger Wilderness, known for its broad summit and dramatic rise above the Green River Lakes. One of the range’s most recognizable landforms, it towers 3,700 feet above the Green River on its northeast side and helps form one of Wyoming’s signature views, a scene featured on the state license plate since 2016. Its alpine subarctic climate brings severe, changeable conditions and hazards including bears, wildfire, cliffs, and rockfall. First climbed before 1921 by William John Stroud, it later became a significant climbing objective with increasingly difficult routes.
