Carson Peak is a 13,662-foot mountain on the Continental Divide in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado, in Hinsdale County east-northeast of Silverton. A thirteener with steep local relief, it rises sharply above Lost Trail Creek and the Lake Fork Gunnison River, with drainage split between the Rio Grande watershed and the Lake Fork. The Continental Divide Trail crosses its south slope, and the summit is reached by a 9.3-mile hike with 3,030 feet of elevation gain. Its officially adopted name preserves the memory of the nearby mining camp of Carson, a later ghost town named for Christopher J. Carson after his 1881 silver and gold discovery.
