History
Camp S-60 at Barnum Pond in the Town of Brighton operated from 1933 to 1942 as U.S. Civilian Conservation Corps Company 220 of Paul Smiths, N.Y. Its work included fighting fires, helping build the Meacham Lake and Fish Creek campsites, planting trees, building trails and dams, and improving forest stands. In 1934, Camp S-60 received the Gov. Lehman Award for Best Conservation Work in N.Y.S.
