Norse Peak Wilderness is a 52,315-acre protected roadless section of Washington’s Cascade Range between Chinook Pass and Naches Pass, east of Mount Rainier National Park. Established in 1984 and managed by the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, it includes forested slopes, stream valleys, high basins, and volcanic peaks such as Norse Peak and Fifes Peaks. The area was previously used for sheep grazing, and nearby mining left traces on the landscape. Trails follow the Cascade divide and approach the backcountry, while forests and meadows support deer, elk, mountain goats, cougar, coyote, and black bear. A 2017 wildfire burned more than 50,000 acres in and around the wilderness.
