Sarvis Creek Wilderness is a federally designated wilderness area in Colorado’s Routt National Forest south of Steamboat Springs. Named for the Sarvis Timber Company, which once logged the area, it reflects a shift from timber use to protected land. Unlike many Colorado wilderness areas, it contains no alpine tundra, instead preserving subalpine country with more than 20 miles of trails for backcountry travel and recreation. Its protection remains active public business: on March 20, 2024, U.S. Senators John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet and Representative Joe Neguse introduced the Sarvis Creek Wilderness Completion Act to expand it by 6,817 acres and protect habitat, wildlife, and recreation access.
