Echo Tower is a dramatic freestanding sandstone pillar in the Fisher Towers area northeast of Moab, Utah, rising about 800 feet above its base and reaching 5,784 feet in elevation. Formed from sandstone and mudstone of the Permian Cutler Formation, its red color comes from hematite, and runoff from it drains into Onion Creek and then the Colorado River. Beyond its striking desert setting, it is a notable climbing destination. Harvey T. Carter, Fred Beckey, and Eric Bjørnstad made the first ascent on October 19, 1966, by the North Chimney route, and later routes helped establish the tower as a long-standing landmark for desert rock climbers.
