Ancient Art is a 5,420-foot sandstone pillar in the Fisher Towers area northeast of Moab, Utah, rising about 700 feet above the desert above Onion Creek on Bureau of Land Management land. Part of an eroded fin in the Permian Cutler Formation, it is made of 290-million-year-old sandstone, mudstone, and conglomerate, with hematite giving it the Fisher Towers’ distinctive red color. The tower is known for its dramatic shape, four summits, and climbing history. The North Summit was first climbed on June 11, 1967, by Herbie Hendricks and Dennis Willis, and later ascents opened routes on the neighboring summits.
