The Oracle is a six thousand sixty-foot sandstone tower in the Fisher Towers area of eastern Utah, northeast of Moab, rising abruptly from the desert on Bureau of Land Management land. Though classified as a mountain, it is more precisely a pillar whose summit climbs more than one thousand feet above nearby terrain in just 0.1 miles. Its red rock comes from hematite in Permian Cutler and Early Triassic Moenkopi formations separated by an unconformity. The tower is also an important climbing objective, first ascended in 1970 by Harvey T. Carter, Tom Merrill, Steve Kentz, and Mike Pokress, and it remains central to Fisher Towers climbing culture.
