Meenahga Mountain, a 2,087-foot peak in the northern Adirondacks northeast of Paul Smiths, is notable for the 73-foot Aermotor LS40 fire lookout tower on its summit. Built in 1927 by Conservation Department Forest Ranger Albert Tebeau for the Adirondack-Florida School, the tower reflects Tebeau’s broader role in creating early fire observation stations across the northern Adirondacks. At Meenahga, it primarily served the school but was also used during times of high fire danger through an agreement with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The surviving tower connects the mountain to the region’s early forest-fire detection system, though the site remains on private land and closed to the public.
