Knife Point Glacier lies in Wyoming on the east side of the Continental Divide in the northern Wind River Range, within the Fitzpatrick Wilderness of Shoshone National Forest. Flowing north from below 13,001-foot Knife Point Mountain, it is part of one of the largest glacier concentrations in the American Rocky Mountains. Since the end of the Little Ice Age around 1850, it has retreated rapidly, reflecting broader changes across the range. That melting has attracted scientific interest by exposing remains of the Rocky Mountain locust, Melanoplus spretus, now believed extinct, along with related insects, linking the glacier to both climate history and the ecological past of the Rockies.
