LaVerkin Creek Wilderness
Nature
LaVerkin Creek Wilderness is a 445-acre protected area in southern Utah beside the Kolob Canyons region of Zion National Park. Though small, it preserves the upper headwaters of LaVerkin Creek, which later joins the Virgin River, recognized in part as a Wild and Scenic river. Established on March 30, 2009, through the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009, it forms part of a larger network of conserved land. The Zion Wilderness adjoins it to the south, and another section of LaVerkin Creek is protected farther downstream in Black Ridge Canyon Wilderness. Its importance is in protecting a fragile watershed on the edge of Zion’s canyon country.
