Mombaccus Mountain is a Catskill peak in New York above Samsonville in the town of Olive, part of a massif with Little Rocky and South Mountain beneath Ashokan High Point. Its north slope follows the Kanape Brook trail, an old wagon road leading to the saddle between Mombaccus and Ashokan High Point, and Big Rosy Bone Knob rises to the southwest. The mountain’s name originated elsewhere, first used by Dutch settlers for the area now called Rochester after a carved face on a sycamore at Rochester and Rondout creeks. Its slopes were once called Subbeatty Mountain and were known for huckleberries, bears, and bear traps.
